Why do I have to pay the fund levy?

Everyone who buys a green slip has to pay a charge on top, called the fund levy. Broadly, it pays for lifetime care and support for people with catastrophic injuries from a road accident, as well as hospital and ambulance. All greenslips.com.au Calculator prices include the fund levy.

What does the fund levy pay for?

The fund levy pays for:

1. The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme. This is for people catastrophically injured in a road accident. The Motor Accident Injuries Treatment and Care Benefits (MAITC) Fund covers the costs of long-term CTP Care. 
2. The Motor Accidents Operational Fund. This is for:

• State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), Personal Injury Commission and Independent Review Office
• Transport for NSW to process registrations
• CTP insurance scheme, CTPAssist and initial public hospital and ambulance services.

Who sets the fund levy?

SIRA sets the fund levy each year. How much you pay is based on:

• Your vehicle type – motor car, light goods vehicle, motorcycle (each engine size)
• Where you live – Metro, Outer metro, Wollongong, Newcastle/Central Coast and Country.

How much is the fund levy?

Fund levies tend to be higher in metro than country areas and higher for light goods vehicles than motor cars. Owners of motorcycles with large engines pay the highest fund levies.
