Who are the green slip insurers in NSW?

Did you know only 6 insurers are licensed to issue greenslips in NSW? The green slip insurers are AAMI, Allianz, GIO, QBE, NRMA Insurance and Youi. By law, every green slip must offer the same cover. Using the greenslips.com.au calculator, you can compare the cheapest greenslip from all 6 insurers.

6 licensed green slip insurers

The 6 green slip licenses are held by 5 big insurance groups: QBE, NRMA, Suncorp, RMIH and Allianz. Suncorp owns GIO and AAMI and RMIH Group owns Youi.

Other brands do sell greenslips but they act as agents for one of the 6 licensed green slip insurers. No matter how or where you buy your greenslip, it comes from one of these licensed insurers.

Allianz


Allianz had a market share of 20.5% as at Dec 2020.  The insurer recently stopped offering at-fault driver cover on top of its greenslip.

GIO


As at Dec 2020, GIO had a market share of 24.0%, including AAMI. GIO offers 10% multi-policy discounts for 3 or more eligible policies. GIO gives a $50 discount off your comprehensive insurance premium if you have a maximum No Claim Discount and you hold a GIO green slip. (This discount doesn’t apply to fleets or policies issued by GIO Business.)

NRMA Insurance

NRMA has the largest market share of the green slip insurers, which was 30.5% at Dec 2020. It has the most extensive branch network and is the only insurer still offering at-fault driver cover. If you bundle your greenslip with other NRMA Insurance products, you receive Loyalty Discounts on certain other insurance products. The more eligible policies you have and the longer you’ve been with NRMA, the greater the discount. (The discount doesn’t apply to commercial policies.)
