Get the cheapest greenslip for a motorcycle in 2026

greenslip for a motorcycle

Do you need a green slip for your motorcycle? Motorcycle green slips can be costly because riding a motorcycle is risky. Always compare prices first to get the cheapest green slip for your motorcycle.

Why is my motorcycle green slip expensive?

Your green slip is expensive because motorcycle riders are 34 times more likely to die on the roads. Motorcycles make up only 3.7% of registered vehicles, yet in the year to January 2026:

  • Riders made up over a fifth (21%) of deaths in road accidents.
  • Motorcycle deaths increased by 37% on the 3-year average and over 90% were male.
  • Learner riders are 7 times more likely than fully licensed riders to have a fatal crash.

These extra risks of riding are reflected in motorcycle green slip prices.

How are green slip prices set for motorcycles?

Insurers set prices for motorcycles based on engine size (including electric). The regulator (SIRA) sets 5 classifications of engine size:

  • Under 225cc and electric motorcycles
  • 226cc to 725cc
  • 726cc to 1125cc
  • 1,126cc to 1325cc
  • Over 1325cc.

Other important factors include geographic (rating) region, rider age, driving record, claims history and presence of a pillion passenger.  See more about how insurers set green slip prices.
