If you don’t know exactly what vehicle you drive, you’re not alone. To get the right green slip price, you need to know more about your vehicle. Here are 3 easy steps to accurately select your vehicle.
Three steps to select your vehicle
- Choose the correct Vehicle Type.
- Check Year of Manufacture, Make and Model.
- Select your exact vehicle from the list.
1. Choose the correct Vehicle Type
First, you have to choose between a Motor Car or a Ute/Light Goods Vehicle.
Make sure it’s the right choice. For example, some large SUVs are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and some ute owners wrongly select Motor Car instead of Ute/Light Goods Vehicle.
It helps to check the vehicle shape code at the bottom of your Registration Renewal Notice:
Motor Car – CON, COU, FCV, HRS, PVF, SBS, SED, SNO, TWC, WAG.
Utes/Light Goods Vehicle – PVS, PVW, PVN, TT, TTF, UTE, VAN.
Example: A Ford Ranger has shape code TTF. This stands for table top and fittings (cab chassis with tray fitted). This means the vehicle type is Ute/Light Goods Vehicle.
2. Check Year of Manufacture, Make and Model
If you don’t know your vehicle’s Year of Manufacture, Make and Model, use the free service, Check a vehicle registration. All you need is your plate number.
Example: This is the result for our Ford Ranger – it has a cab chassis with table top and was manufactured in 2012.
3. Select your exact vehicle from the list
The best way to select your exact vehicle is to combine information from Check a vehicle registration with your own personal knowledge.
Example: The 2012 Ford Ranger comes in many versions. The owner knows his vehicle is manual, not 4WD and runs on petrol, so he can ignore (4×4) and Diesel Turbo versions. He selects his exact Ford Ranger from the list:
