How do you get fuel price information?
Our fuel prices are standard retail prices, made available by the NSW Government. It operates FuelCheck, an online tool for collecting and publishing real time standard retail prices for fuels sold at every service station in NSW.
NSW service station operators have to be registered with FuelCheck. They must ensure the fuel prices in FuelCheck match the standard retail price of fuels on offer at their service stations, at all times.
The standard retail price is defined as the price per litre at which fuel can be purchased without any discounts or special offers. Prices displayed on bowsers or on display boards at service stations must be the standard retail prices, as submitted to FuelCheck.
How often do you update fuel prices?
We update standard retail prices on this site every 20 minutes.
What happens if the price doesn’t match the service station price?
If the price does not match the price on display at a service station:
- Check your device has been updated – a weak internet connection can prevent prices from updating.
- Discuss with the service station operator.
- Finally, report it to Department of Customer Service.

Essential to know
Octane rating is an index of the fuel’s resistance to burning.
-
If it burns too early inside the engine, it causes destructive ‘pinging’.
-
Higher octane numbers have more burning resistance than lower octane numbers.
-
For example, P98 has more burning resistance than U91.
