Cover for damage to vehicles and property
Remember, your green slip does not cover damage to your vehicle, damage to other vehicles, damage to or loss of property, or theft of your vehicle.
Find out What a green slip does and does not cover.
Your green slip is mandatory, but you may consider taking out comprehensive car insurance or third party property insurance.
Comprehensive insurance
This covers damage to your vehicle, damage to other vehicles, damage to (or loss of) property and theft of your vehicle.

Third party property insurance
This covers damage to other vehicles but does not cover damage to your vehicle or theft of your vehicle.
Third party property cover is usually cheaper than comprehensive car insurance because the cover is more limited.
How to buy motor insurance
All green slip insurers and many other insurers sell comprehensive motor insurance and third party property cover.
It is worth shopping around. Comprehensive insurance or third party property insurance vary from insurer to insurer in:
- price
- policy terms
- exclusions, and
- coverage.
