About Greenslips
Motor Accident Authority

The Motor Accident Authority is a statutory body constituted by the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999. The Act sets out the structure and functions of the MAA.
The MAA manages the CTP greenslip scheme and the LTCS scheme, on the basis set out in the acts, and on behalf of the NSW state government.
In its Annual Report 2008-2009, the Motor Accidents Authority states that its aim is “to reduce the social costs of death and injury from motor vehicle accidents through a compulsory insurance scheme.” Amongst many objectives, the Annual Report retains the objective to have "a Compulsory Third Party scheme that is effective, efficient, affordable and fair".
The six key functional areas in which the MAA operates are as follows:
Compliance
Ensure that insurers and other stakeholders comply with the requirements of the act and any guidelines.
Effectiveness
Ensure the market is competitive and fair, licence the insurers, manage the conduct of insurers, monitor and if necessary reject premiums, monitor profitability and monitor insurer solvency.
Health Outcomes
Improve injury management and health outcomes and improve services for injured people and their families.
Claims
Improve efficiency and effectiveness of claims assessment, reduce claims assessment disputes and facilitate timely dispute resolution.
Information
Monitor and report on the operation of the scheme. Service the information requirements of greenslip purchasers through the provision of price comparison information and operate the claims advisory service.
Prevention
Support injury prevention by funding research, through provision of sponsorships and through participation with the community.
The MAA operates a web site at maa.nsw.gov.au.
The MAA web site is a very useful resource if you are seeking CTP greenslip information, including price information and claims advice.
The Claims Advisory number is 1300 656 919.
