What a sad day...

Tuesday, 05 July 2011
I have greatly enjoyed riding my 250cc bike for the last 20 yrs for a few times per year. I will NOT be registering this time round due to the 89% Price Gouge, mostly on principle. And further, each time I start my Big 3-Tonne thristy 4WD in place of that "greener" bike, I will think of you, MAA, & you lovely Insurers... and the Bonus is the Big 3-tonne Thirsty 4WD CTP costs me the same. Go figure... Can someone explain though, why (if bikers do not get At-Fault Driver Cover), do we have to bend over and cop it sweet? Ah, when the revolution comes....

I own a 2008 Harley 1200 sportster and a Sachs madass 125. In December I registered the Sachs for a total sum of approx $350. Green-slip and registration combined. I am 36yrs old and have been a bike rider since 1994, I have never claimed, I have full comprehensive car and bike insurance etc. Last week I received my new green-slip renewal for my Harley. I also received my rego renewal the same day. The rego is $110. Now where I am confused, and I would love for someone, somewhere to come out and explain clearly and honestly to us all, " Why is my green-slip $700? " I cannot even to begin to understand how they decided that a motorcycle can cost $700 for a green-slip when my car is $500? Maybe there are too many "Silly" riders out there that cause too many insurance claims? Maybe the Government is scraping for its last resources and the poor motorcyclists are the only sector of society they haven't pillaged lately. I originally bought my Sachs 125 because I worked in the city and it was perfect for the commute. That bike weighs 90kg will do 200klm's on 5 litres of fuel, it doesn't even dent the grass, why isn't that $150 a year and my Harley I use to visit my family in the Blue Mountains and that weighs 240kg costs $14 to fill completely and uses about $8 from Revesby to Katoomba, if I happen to have an accident how much damage can I possibly do. Why is my Green-Slip $700 ?????? Please Explain to us all

Less Confused

Hi again, I came back to write a bit more because I researched and found why CTP insurance for bikes is so high. As I understand it, the Green-Slip covers not only those you may damage or injure, it also covers your medical bills. As we all know, a bike rider is going to have fairly high medical bills after an accident. But what I can't understand is, why no-one has explained this properly before? You see I think most of the NSW public is like me and think that you have a Greenslip to cover what you hit on the road and the medical of people you hit, and you have you comprehensive or property damage insurance to cover yourself and vehicle. So here's what I think, I think we should all fight back at the Insurer's by paying the Greenslip, but cancelling the insurance. (maybe just get the cheapest third party, fire and theft policy) The way I see it is, if we get covered either way why have two policies? That's the rip-off right there! It's an Insurance companie's little catch, they only cover enough on each policy to make you need the next one too. Why not charge a one-off yearly price that covers Car, Bike, Home, Greenslip, Boat etc. Instead of $1000 for this and $650 for that and $1200 for those. The Insurance Industry needs a big shake-up, why in other States is Registration under $500 for a car? Who want's to start an Insurance company with me?????

250 rego

I have ridden and raced bikes all my life and now in my twilight years I ride a registered enduro bike 4 or 5 times a year 98% of that is in the bush . To do the right thing I register the bike. After recieving my latest green slip I have decided to let the rego go and take my chances. There will be a lot of trail riders doing the same. Why do they attack the people who want to do the right thing and push us to this point.
