Insurance Cost Increases

There has been lots of press and discussion in the last few days about increases in the price of car insurance.  The GFC is being blamed for a reduction in investment returns....resulting in an increase in premiums.  It seems that the cost of both comprehensive insurance and greenslips has increased.

What is your experience.  Here is the chance to have your say.  Tell everyone how the cost of your greenslip or comprehensive insurance has increased.  Click on the link below and record how the cost of your car insurance has increased.

1. AAMI tried a $395 to $667 increase on me - 46 yr old driver of an 11yr old 7 seater merc station wagon with unchanged conditions from last year!! simply went to the NRMA and got $436. AAMI tried to explain that the reason was that the car didnt have comprehensive insurance ?? I have third party property insurance on the car with AAMI (may switch that to NRMA as well if I can). AAMI couldnt explain the logic in why not having comprehensive insurance skyrocketed my CTP personal. Its a pity the tried this profiteering as I have had a good record with them over the years - not any more.....

2. Thanks for your comment, onestep. Your experience is common. It seems that more people are shopping around now and your experience shows the value of doing so.

3. Also received an AAMI renewal at $677 compared to $389 the previous year. Based on onestep's post, the only explanation could be that the CTP renewal notice says the vehicle is not insured. Funny thing is that the comprehensive policy is in fact with AAMI.

4. Just had a renewal notice with a funny cover letter vaguely stating a number of factors determine the price of my CTP... Then comes the increase from $456 (every year for 4 years) to $677.15. And the call center is pretty busy - I wonder if they are having software issues or if this is calculated?

5. Yes increased price of the green slip-supposedly started on this year 2010. according to AAMI. Based on the fact you no longer have comprehensive insurance on your car. We stopped fully insuraning our car for no other reason than it not a viable deal. 1100 to cover a car worth 4000 MV. The car has been fully insured for 13 of its 15 years. I still need the car mind and would be annoyed if anything happended to it, but you cannot justify the outlay it is simply not worth it. But to insurance companies not just AAMI they think this is the number one factor when pricing a green slip. Go in to the web site give yourself the worst driving record you can find, the price does not change until they ask about comprehensive insurance. To me this is price fixing. They are all doing it. They are saying to people if you wont by a comprehensive policy off an insurer we will get it back off you in the green slip. To me that\'s illegal. If anything I drive even more carefully because I cannot afford to have a smash thats my fault. It really is a joke.

6. Who is the governing body that is allowing this theft/gouging/rorting/manipulating/price fixing to continue. Are they in on the act? Why isn't anyone in government concerned that their citizens are being financially raped? My premium went up from $332 to $677 this year from AAMI.This is unsustainable. I will not pay this.

7. Motorcycle green slip in Queensland is $96.00, NSW $681.40, Thank You and farewell Christina and the Labor gang, come on down Barry.

8. AAMI greenslips one up from $288.00 last year to $418.49 this year and the other up from $285.00 to $644.99. Only difference we are both a year older. Best deal was GIO for $367.22, still a massive increase but better than AAMI

9. my ctp greenslip has increased 63% this year, I compared it with other insurers and they are all about the same, this price collusion and severe increase in pricing is just too much to bear, we need government intevention, especially as this is a compulsory requirement we are forced to pay these crazy prices.
